Heroes are the playable characters for the players other than the Overlord in Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition.
The can be up to 4 heroes in a given game session, each from one of four possible archetypes: Warrior, Healer, Mage, and Scout. From this it will depend which classes are available for a specific hero.
Hero Properties
Heroes vary and differentiate themselves based on various unique traits. These are all viewable in a heroe's Hero Sheet.
Archetype
Characteristics
- Speed - How many movement points does an Move Action grants
- Health - The amount of damage a hero can take before beind defeated
- Stamina - The maximum amount of fatigue a hero may suffer
- Defense - Which die the hero uses as its basic defense
Hero Ability
- All heroes have a unique ability that provides a small advantage during the game
Heroic Feat
- A once per encounter effect or action
Attributes - Used for performing Attribute tests
- Might - Measures a character’s strength, toughness, and their ability to overcome physical obstacles
- Knowledge - Measures a character’s education, experience, and general intelligence
- Willpower - Measures a character’s mental constitution,devotion, and discipline
- Awareness - Measures a character’s dexterity, vigilance, and perception
List of Heroes
Hero Classes
During the Hero Setup phase, after selecting a hero, players choose one Class deck matching their chosen hero’s archetype icon. Each archetype has different classes available, each one defining which skills are available to a hero of that class. When a player chooses a class for his hero, he takes the deck of cards for that class. This Class deck includes the starting equipment for the hero, as well as all of the skills associated with that class. A player may not select a hero class that does not match the archetype icon shown on the hero’s Hero sheet. Furthermore, a player may not select a class that has been chosen by another player. Any Class deck belonging to a class not chosen is returned to the game box. The currenlty avalable classes are as followed:
